Latest Lab Results and More Adventures

Hello friends!
I will really strive to blog a few times a week…

So how about this incredible weather? I hope you are able to get out and enjoy it!

I have been busy babysitting the cute little 2 yr old these past couple of weeks amongst some appointments…

So, I got my lab results Friday and according to my nurse: “-my calcium is good, my phosphorus is excellent; my potassium is great; my hemoglobin is good; my albumin is not so good– I need to eat more protein; and my parathyroid is too high”. I now have to take another medication to help regulate the parathyroid hormone– this helps balance my phosphorus and calcium levels. So, I picked up my new medicine yesterday and you know how the pharmacist or tech asks if you have taken it before or if you have any questions? I let him know i have never taken it before. He graciously informed that it will cause me to be disoriented and dizzy- alright, sign me up! I cannot wait to take this stuff! Ha-Yeah, right! I took this happy pill late last night around 11pm or so… an about a half an hour later as I was going through emails, I noticed how dizzy I was getting and decided I had better turn off the computer. Now, my next question is “am I going to be able to sleep?” I sure hope so! As you know, I have been sleeping quite good lately…

A couple new dialysis adventures~
I was at a friend’s house over the weekend as her husband was going to be out of town for a few days and she needed some girl time.. I tell ya, us girls want to continue chatting and not miss a beat! I got creative and decided to hang my bag from the light in the bathroom. I sat in a chair in the doorway so I could talk with my friend. As always, people are curious as to what the whole process is… as the evening got colder, we turned on a fire in the fireplace… I am going to have to ask my Dr if having a fire going and blowing out the vents several feet away, is okay while I do dialysis. I have a hunch it may not be.

I was at the house of the 80 yr old man I have been watching a little lately… the son came home and I decided I had better do my dialysis as I had some important things to get done prior to babysitting the 2 yr old that evening… There wasn’t really a place to hang my bag so I decided to try something new… put it on top of a file cabinet and sit on the floor. I didn’t have enough tubing to reach to connect myself. I then slouched in a chair. It turned out pretty good for draining, I had to readjust when I needed to fill up. So, my friend got a hanger out of the closet and then hung my bag from it from the valance of the blinds. I have to admit, that was very quick thinking and boy did my filling up go really fast. The higher the bag, the faster it goes.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the owner of a company that created some genius products for pperitonealdialysis patients. I went ahead and ordered the belts as this will replace my problem of being sensitive or allergic to the adhesive on the bandages and tape. I am looking forward to trying this option out. I also talked with him about the overnight bag that holds (2) dialysate bags and keeps them warm. I am thinking I need to invest in this… I use this term invest because it is a financial investment of several hundred dollars. Maybe good ol medicare will help with this?

That is the latest and greatest…
